Hi, today I am going to give you 7 tips for SEO that will help you in the organic search results. As an SEO I am always asked why doesn’t my website show up when I type in certain keywords.
The first thing I do is look at the website and analyze the front page and that usually gives me the answer straight away.
Title Tage Wrong For SEO
As you can see in the image above the first thing I see is that the title tag does not work for SEO. So, one of the first tips for SEO is you want to tell Google exactly what it is you want to rank for.
In this example, if the client used the formula CITY + KEYWORD in the title tag it would make more sense to Google what they actually want to rank for. For example “Milford Personal Injury Attorneys” would tell Google they want to rank in Milford CT for Personal Injury Attorneys.
Simple right? But 99% of all businesses get this one major part wrong. If you type in the search bar “personal injury attorneys” their website doesn’t show up in the organic search results at all.
But if you type in the exact thing they are telling Google they want to rank for “personal injury attorneys Berchem Moses” you can see they come right to the top of the maps, which is where they need to be.
The problem is, that people do not know this firm, so there is no chance in a million years that someone would actually type in that exact keyword phrase unless they knew the firm. That is why the title tag is the first and most important SEO optimization technique.
One Of The Second Tips For SEO Is Meta Description
Looking again at the first image you can see there is no Meta Description. Although most SEOs would argue that this is not a ranking factor, it is most certainly a click-through-based factor.
You can use this description opportunity to entice people to click through to your website which I know for a fact Google uses as a measure of if they will at least show people your listing. It is called impressions.
Simply, if Google gives you a shot in the organic results and no one is clicking on your link it tells Google no one is interested in what you have to say so you go down into the abyss of the world wide web.
You can actually see in the impressions report how many times Google gave this company impressions of some highly searched keywords and how many times they were clicked on.
The higher the click-through rate the better chances Google will keep showing your content. That is why the meta description is so important.
Tips For SEO The H1 Tag
Another one of my tips for SEO which is the third tip is the H1 Tag. I always see websites where there are either many H1 tags or no H1 tags. It depends on the person who is developing the website.
If they are just using a theme they are just adding text to headings they think people will like not even knowing if they are H1, H2, Or even H3 tags.
H1 tags are the most second important part of SEO to the Title tag. This also tells Google what exactly it is you want to rank for. I would just copy the title into the H1 tag area. Most of the time it is the big bold heading at the beginning of any website theme.
In this case, the H1 Tag is “Personal Injury Attorneys” The problem, in this case, is this website will not rank just for that keyword alone unless it has a lot of authority.
As you can see in the image below the difficulty to rank for this keyword is 55 meaning your domain authority should at least be 55 in order to rank for this keyword alone.
But you can see the demo website only has an authority of 31.
The thing is this demo site could possibly rank for that keyword as you can see in the image below. In the top 10 results for that keyword, there are two sites ranking with lower DAs.
If this were my client I would say to dissect the reason these two sites with a lower DA and use that as inspiration to out rank them
Tips For SEO number 4 Keywords In The Beginning Of The content
The 4th item in my tips for SEO is putting the keywords in front of the beginning of the content. You need to establish right at the beginning what your content is about.
As Google bots crawl your website they will be looking for the keyword and synonyms of that keyword throughout the content. This will show Google, relevance to the topic.
Tips For SEO number 5 Using The Keyword In Subtopics.
This will further solidify the intent of the content for Google bots. Remember Google is in the business of selling ads, so Google just wants to show the searcher the very best results for the intent of the search.
What Are Some Useful Tips For SEO In 2022
Other important tips for SEO in 2022 are:
- When creating Content Focus On The User Experience. No one likes to see a big wall of text when searching for something. Add images and videos to keep the readers’ attention. These increases dwell time and signal to Google that your content is valuable.
- Use internal linking to spread the link juice of your domain. This is an important ranking factor as Google will follow all your internal links which will get everything indexed. You do not want to have orphaned pages that Google will miss and not crawl.
- Create Off-Page Backlinks. Google is just a machine. Even though some SEOs might say backlinks don’t matter they actually do. Posting your content on Social Media and other relevant blogs will create backlinks and signal to Google that your content is worth a look over.
- Make sure you understand the search intent of the keyword. A good way to understand the search intent is to just type it into the search bar and click search. Google will show you exactly what it will show for any keyword. [1]
